Memorial Day is when we honor the nation’s fallen heroes. A day of remembering the men and women who died while serving in the United States armed forces. Formerly known as Decoration Day, it originated after the Civil War to commemorate the fallen Union soldiers.
This weekend also marks the start of the summer season nationwide so if you haven’t made your vacation plans it’s definitely time. People of all generations will gather together on May 28, 2012 at the Battleship Wilmington to pay their respects. This annual Memorial Day Ceremony has been observed for the last 47 years and is honored to have guest speaker, Major General Rodney O. Anderson at the 2012 event. This emotional ceremony begins and ends with military musical arrangements provided by the Army Ground Forces Band. The public is invited to this free event.
